about me

After working for many years in graphic design, I now concentrate exclusively on photography. Most of my images combine a love of watercolor painting with digital photography. I shoot most subjects by natural light only and apply various textures and grunge layers in CS4. These textures are created by combining separate photographs of peeling paint, dirty snow, cracked pavement, etc. The final result is a process of techniques that I experiment with as I go along, to see where it leads. I also retain some images in a more pure form, as I've been shooting with film for many years and appreciate the beauty of a simple black and white photograph. I'm inspired by the landscapes and seasons of New England; often I'm drawn to the less-than-perfect flower in the bunch, the tattered one that seems to tell a tale~ ~ Joan Kocak Published in Digital SLR Photography Magazine; SHOTS Magazine; and The Sun Magazine Current work on exhibit at : Chameleon Gallery, Newburyport, MA 234 Water Street Gallery, Block Island, RI
